Judge dismisses special counsel’s election case against Trump

In the case concerning his attempts to reverse his 2020 election defeat, Trump had entered a not guilty plea. A significant case against Donald Trump that claimed he unlawfully attempted to void the 2020 election was dismissed by a federal judge. Citing a Justice Department principle that prohibits the prosecution of a sitting president, special prosecutor Jack Smith, who initiated the criminal investigation against Trump, has requested that the charges be withdrawn. The case was dismissed “without prejudice” by Judge Tanya Chutkan, which means that the accusations may be re-filed once Trump’s second term is over.
