Reception Honoring Newly Appointed Director General of DGDA, Md. Alamgir Hossain

BDNewsExpress: A seminar titled “Academia-Industry-Regulatory Authority: Towards Excellence” was held on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at the Pharmacy Lecture Theatre, organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka.
The chief guest of the program was Md. Alamgir Hossain, Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) and additional secretary of Bangladesh government. On the occasion of his appointment as Director General, he was accorded a reception as an alumnus of the Department of Pharmacy.

In his speech, the chief guest emphasized that young pharmacists should prepare not only for careers in pharmaceutical companies but also for positions in various government sectors. He noted that this would contribute to the overall development of the healthcare system and help ensure the rights of pharmacists.
He further stated, “My salary is paid by the people; therefore, my primary goal is to ensure safe medicines and serve the people.”
Highlighting the potential of Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry, he mentioned that if local pharmaceutical companies can achieve ML-3 (Maturity Level 3), the country’s medicine export sector will be further strengthened, enhancing Bangladesh’s position in the global market.
Other distinguished guests present at the event expressed their best wishes for the Director General’s continued success and hoped for further advancement in the pharmaceutical sector under his leadership.The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Professor Dr. Md. Aslam Hossain, Chief Coordinator of the organizing committee, delivered the welcome address. Saeri Muto, Chief Advisor of JICA, and Dr. Ito Mika, Human Resource Expert, presented keynote papers. Emeritus Professor A. K. Azad Chowdhury was also present.
Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of the University of Dhaka, attended as the chief patron.
Representatives from the pharmaceutical industry included Md. Abdul Muktadir, Chairman of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and President of the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI); Md. Naser Shahriar Zahedi, Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Muhammad Halimuzzaman, CEO of Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Secretary General of BAPI; Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Managing Director of Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Mahbubul Hasan Pallab, Executive Vice President of Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Shamim Alam Khan, Executive Director (Marketing), Unimed Unihealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Binoy Das, Additional Director (Marketing & Sales), SKF Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Mohammad Imran Hasan, Head of Primary Care Marketing, Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; and Subodh Chandra Das, Executive Director (R&D), Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., among others.
Also present were Md. Mahbubul Haque, Secretary of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council, Md. Azibur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Pharmacists’ Forum, along with chairpersons of pharmacy departments from various universities and renowned pharmacists from across the country.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Professor Dr. Zakir Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy. The event was moderated by Mokaddas Flora Ananta, Lecturer of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and Faria Nasrin, Lecturer of Pharmaceutical Technology.
