Bangladesh’s Hindu community has celebrated Saraswati Puja, worshiping the Goddess of knowledge, music, art, and culture.
Ceremonies took place in temples, homes, and educational institutions, beginning in the morning with traditional rituals, including “anjali,” followed by “Hatekhori,” where children are introduced to learning. Students in particular seek the Goddess’s blessings in their pursuit of knowledge, art, and music.
According to Hindu belief, Saraswati embodies power, creativity, and inspiration, appearing when the weather is pleasant and nature is at its grandest.
The largest celebration took place at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall, where students from 74 departments set up 74 puja pandals, said Hall Provost Debashis Pal.
Puja ceremonies were also held at Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ram Krishna Mission, Siddheswari Temple, Supreme Court premises, and other locations across Dhaka, including Banani, Farashganj, Shakhari Bazar, Tanti Bazar, Dhaka College, Eden Girls’ College, BUET, Ramna Kali Mandir, Maa Anandamayi Ashram, and Tejgaon College.
Outside Dhaka, Saraswati Puja was observed at temples, educational institutions, and homes across the country.
