Dhaka, August 9, 2026: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman handed over appointment letters of Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) to family members of 10 people who were martyred or seriously injured during the July Mass Uprising.
The appointment letters were handed over to the family members at a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on August 8, 2026. The appointment letters, signed by EDCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer A.K. M. Ashrafuzzaman, were handed over to the recipients by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
In accordance with the specific directives of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, EDCL Managing Director and CEO A.K. M. Ashrafuzzaman provided direct guidance and overall supervision in completing all necessary administrative and official procedures for the appointments within the shortest possible time.
Through this initiative, EDCL has taken an important humanitarian step by creating employment opportunities for family members of those who sacrificed their lives or sustained serious injuries during the July Mass Uprising and by bringing them into the EDCL family.
Ten Recipients of the Appointment Letters
The recipients are Sabina Akter Rima, wife of martyr Md. Sohag; Rajia Khatun, wife of martyr Md. Shahriar; Afsana Akter, wife of martyr Md. Abdullah Kabir; Aklema Akter, wife of martyr Md. Mostafa Kamal Raju; Sumaiya Akter Suborna, wife of martyr Md. Juel; Samia Islam Popy, sister of martyr Miraj; Hafiza Akter Happy, wife of martyr Ahsan Kabir; Farzana Akter Rani, wife of martyr Omar Nurul Absar; Sabana Akter, wife of seriously injured Md. Abdul Matin; and Mosa. Arzu Akter, wife of seriously injured Md. Julfikar Alam.
PM Assures Continued Efforts to Honour Their Sacrifices
At the ceremony, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid deep tribute to all those who made sacrifices for the country, from the Liberation War of 1971 to the July Mass Uprising of 2024.
He said the ultimate goal and purpose of these sacrifices was to build a developed Bangladesh where people would be able to live better.
The Prime Minister also assured that efforts to appropriately recognise and honour the sacrifices of those who were martyred or injured during the July Mass Uprising, as well as to stand by their families, would continue in the future.
EDCL’s Humanitarian Commitment
EDCL expressed its deep honour and pride in being able to stand beside the families of the brave martyrs and seriously injured victims of the July Mass Uprising and to welcome their family members into the EDCL family.
Under the direct guidance, initiative and overall supervision of EDCL Managing Director and CEO A.K. M. Ashrafuzzaman, the administrative and official procedures related to the appointments were completed promptly.
EDCL believes that the responsibility of the state and institutions towards the families of those who sacrificed their lives or suffered injuries for the welfare of the country goes beyond formal recognition. Ensuring their dignity, respect and future security is also an important part of that responsibility.
